Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2023

Isole e Olena Chianti Classico 2023

The name ëIsole e Olenaí came about in the 1950s when two adjoining estates, Isole and Olena, were purchased by the De Marchi family and combined to form one. The history of both estates dates back many hundreds of years, and the earliest documentation of the village of Olena goes as far back as the 12th Century. During the 1950s, the De Marchi family planted new specialised vineyards and expanded the cellars. Today, the Isole e Olena estate is run by Paolo De Marchi and his wife Marta. Paolo comes from a family with three generations of winemaking experience in the northern part of Piemonte and his older son, Luca, now runs the family estate there, Proprieta Sperino.

2013 will be remembered for its unique climatic conditions. Following a cold and wet spring, the summer didnít arrive until the beginning of July when a short-lasting heat wave kicked in before more rain and cool weather in August. In September, maturation was late. The higher vineyards benefited from good weather in September and October. The harvest was later than usual but produced a crop of optimum quality. The yield was average and the wines are complex, aromatic with good acidity, a bright colour and silky tannins.
