Miraval, Côtes de Provence Rosé 2024
Miraval has become the go-to Rosé for many. The wine has a beautiful pale, petal-pink colour, with bright nuances. On the nose, it has aromas of fresh strawberries and spring flowers. It finishes with a refreshing acidity, minerality and a saline finish.
Château Miraval is located in the Provence village of Correns, the first 100% organic village in France. All the crops, including grapes, are grown organically in this wild and picturesque town. Tucked away in its own private valley, the Château is surrounded by ancient woodlands and olive groves. In 2012, owner Brad Pitt partnered with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel fame, who oversee wine production at the estate. Their continued dedication to improving quality, in both the vineyards and the cellar, have seen the wines go from strength to strength, with Château Miraval today considered one of the great names of Provence.
Château Miraval has 50 hectares of terraced vineyards. They are situated at 350 metres altitude, resulting in cool nights that moderate the warm days and allow the grapes to retain their delicate aromas and crisp acidity. The clay and chalk soils at Miraval are also important for quality, helping to regulate water supply to the vines so they have water when they need it and drainage when they don‘t. At harvest, the grapes are hand-picked in the coolness of the morning and hand sorted twice to ensure that only the best grapes go into the wine which blends Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle and Syrah.
All the grapes for the Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé are gently pressed to extract just the right amount of colour, except for the Syrah, which is vinified using the saignée method. Each variety is fermented separately in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks and then blended post fermentation. Additionally, the Rolle is put into 228 litre barrels and bâtonnage is practised to add texture and complexity. The wine is a beautiful pale pink with enticing aromas of raspberries, cherries and hints of garrigue. The palate is dry with crisp acidity and a lingering, perfumed finish. The Miraval Côtes de Provence Blanc is made solely from Rolle, which gives the wine an attractive almond and fresh white peach character. 10% of the blend is fermented in oak for 12 months which lends additional texture and roundness to the wine.
